Lessons

Lessons are currently being conducted online. The studio will reopen for in-person lesson in May or June.

Piano Lessons is the best gift you can give to yourself or to your child! 

​

It is imperative that piano students have a tuned piano at home because they are training their ears as well as their muscles.  Students may use a weight sensitive keyboard with a pedal in place of an acoustic piano.

Children ages 4 -7 may begin with Suzuki Piano if there is a parent who will come to all lessons, take notes about what is taught and will serve as a practice partner at home with the child in daily practice.  The parent will be responsible for playing the CD's of the Suzuki Book for at least 2 hours each day.  All Suzuki repertoire is played from memory at the lesson. Young students will start with a twenty minute lesson and move to a thirty minute lesson when note reading is added.  Young students will start with the WunderKeys note reading books.

Ages 6 and above may choose to begin with Suzuki Piano or traditional note reading methods and will take a thirty minute lesson.  When students are practicing 45 minutes per day at home, the lesson time will also become 45 minutes in length.

All students will learn scales, chords, cadences, arpeggios, note reading, memorization, theory , beginning composition and performance etiquette.  Students that are interested in composition will continue this along with their regular lessons.  It is assumed that every child may want to play at a school talent show, church, school jazz band, accompany their school choir or major in music in college.  The Acker Studio provides the necessary tools and motivation.  Students will always have at least 2 pieces memorized to play for any occasion!
